Longhorns DB Jahdae Barron Accepts Senior Bowl Invite

Jahdae Barron will represent the Texas Longhorns one more time after the 2023 season regular season comes to a close.

Barron will head down to Mobile, Ala., to play in the Resee's Bowl at Hancock Whitney Stadium on Feb. 3, 2024. Barron will join defensive lineman T'Vondre Sweat, defensive lineman Byron Murphy, and offensive tackle Christian Jones as representatives from the No. 7 Longhorns. 

Barron took over full-time as the team's nickel defender two seasons ago and hasn't missed a beat. In 2022, he totaled 78 tackles, two interceptions and five passes defended. This past fall, Barron notched 54 tackles, five passed defensed, an interception and a forced fumble. 

Among teammates, Barron has been described as a role model and team player, always looking out for the roster over individual stats. Following a 57-7 win on senior day over Texas Tech, Barron mentioned how his stat line wasn't a concern, so long as the Longhorns continued to improve. 

Texas intercepted Red Raiders quarterback Behren Morton three times, one of which ended up being a 43-yard pick-six by Jett Bush. 

"I felt that we were playing at a high level today," Barron said. "Great energy. And everybody was playing for one another; they knew that this was the last home game here. Everyone was playing for the seniors."

Initially a Baylor commit, Barron elected to play his college ball closer to his hometown of Pflugerville. It ended up becoming a win-win for both parties. The Longhorns have relied heavily on Barron's open-field tackling skills and run defense. 

Barron's now potentially a game away from playing in the 2023 College Football Playoff. 

The Longhorns take on No. 18 Oklahoma State in the Big 12 championship this Saturday at 11 a.m. at AT&T Stadium in Arlington.
