Preseason recognition continues for Kenny Logan Jr

Preseason recognition continues for Kenny Logan Jr , a 4th year Safety from St Augustine FL. Logan Jr is one of 52 players named to the preseason Paul Hornung Award watch list.  He returns punts and kickoffs for the Jayhawks, averaging 27.4 yds per kickoff, and 5.6 yds per punt, in addition to starting a Safety.

The college football world is learning what has been known in Lawrence since 2020: Logan Jr is a legitimate playmaker and tackling machine. The two-time team leader in tackles is typically quiet on social media, but acknowledges the added recognition on twitter:

In addition to the Hornung Award watch list, Logan and five other Jayhawk Football players are on the Shrine Bowl preseason watch list.  Joining Logan are DE Lonnie Phelps, LB Craig Young, OT Earl Bostick Jr, DE Malcolm Lee, and OL Mike Novitsky. The Shrine Bowl Watch list is an assessment of College Football Players with NFL level talent.

Logan is also on the Jim Thorpe Award watch list and the preseason All Big 12 team.

Hornung award history

The most versatile player in major college football is awarded the Paul Hornung Award.  The Louisville Sports Commission presents the award in memory of the late football legend and Louisville native Paul Hornung.

Hornung, a running back for the dominant mid-60s Green Bay Packers teams, is known for his versatility.  He is the only player to win the Heisman, be drafted #1 overall, win the NFL MVP, and win a Super Bowl.  Over his career, the halfback, quarterback, placekicker, and kick returner was a true iron-man football player.  Hornung lettered in basketball while attending Notre Dame on a football scholarship.

Previous winners of the Hornung award include Devonta Smith (Alabama 2020), Saquon Barkley (Penn State 2017), Christian McCaffrey (Stanford 2015), and Odell Beckham Jr (LSU, 2013).
