AUSTIN, Texas -- Amid multiple offseason roster departures, the Texas Longhorns have retained one of their top defensive players for another season.

Texas defensive back Jahdae Barron announced on social media Saturday that's he returning to the Forty Acres for the 2024 season and will switch his No. 23 jersey.

Barron will sport the No. 7 jersey next season, and made sure to recognize the significance behind it.

In the video, legendary Texas defensive back Michael Huff hands Barron the No. 7 jersey that he wore during his time with the Longhorns. His appearance was clearly intended as a passing-the-torch moment of the jersey number.

Take a look:

Texas defensive back B.J. Allen Jr. wore No. 7 this season but entered the transfer portal.

Barron will now help lead Texas' defense during the program's first season in the SEC.
