Texas STAR Jahdae Barron Doesn't Get 'Nearly Enough Credit'

Senior defensive back Jahdae Barron might just be the glue that holds the Texas Longhorns' defense together. Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian applauded Barron for his consistent performances and athleticism on the field.

"I do not think this guy gets nearly enough credit for the player that he is on our team. He's extremely impactful. He's got one of the highest football IQs on our team. It always feels like he's at the right spot at the right time, and we ask a lot of him."

So far this season, Barron has recorded a total of 41 tackles (22 solo and 19 assists). On top of that, he has snagged one interception.

In 2020, Barron joined the Longhorns' roster. However, wearing burnt orange was not always on the defensive backs' mind. He originally committed to the Baylor Bears, however, with a coaching change (former Bears' coach Matt Rhule moving to Nebraska and current head coach Dave Aranda taking the open slot), Barren ultimately chose to join Tom Herman (former Texas coach) and the Longhorns.

“I signed to Baylor and that whole crazy (recruiting) process I had,” Barron said. “I don’t know (what could’ve been), but I know I have this plan and God did too.”

When Sarkisian filled in as head coach three seasons ago, Barron bought into his game plan.

Over the past three years, Texas' defense has improved greatly, and Barron has been a key aspect of its success. Now, approaching their tenth game of the season, the Longhorns are on a mission for a conference championship.
