Tara VanDerveer weighs in on Stanford's controversial No. 2 seed
John Hefti-USA TODAY Sports

Selection Sunday rolled around this past weekend and revealed where teams in both men's and women's would be playing and seeded in the upcoming big dance.

Stanford's women's team (27-5) has been a No. 1 seed for each of the past three seasons and appeared to have a case to make it a fourth after winning the Pac-12 regular season title. However, after a loss to eventual No. 1 seed USC in the Pac-12 Tournament final, they were not one of the top four teams selected by the committee.

Instead, they ended up falling down to a No. 2 seed, with South Carolina, Texas, USC, and Iowa all notching top seeds.

While many fans felt like Stanford had done more than enough to earn the top seed, head coach Tara VanDerveer weighed in while making an appearance on College Sports on SiriusXM. Unsurprisingly, VanDerveer who became the all-time winningest coach in college basketball history earlier this year, wasn't worried about their seeding at all. Instead she insisted that it matters more how they play in the coming weeks.

Stanford opens the tournament against No. 15 seed Norfolk State at Maples Pavilion on Friday. According to ESPN, Stanford is favored by 35.5 points, and have a 99% chance of winning.

If they do win, they will take on the winner of Iowa State and Maryland. The Cardinal are looking to win what would be their second title in the past four years. They are also looking to avenge what was an early exit last season, as they were sent packing in the second round for the first time since 2006-07.
