Golf best bets: 3 juicy longshots to target for the Open Championship

Open Championship week is finally here, and two world-class players have emerged as the clear favorites to win the fourth and final major of the year. Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler are both priced between +600 and +750 at various sportsbooks, while no other player is lower than 12/1.

But we're not interested in the top of the odds board here. Let's scroll down the page a bit and target some juicy longshots with outright and finishing position bets.

Brian Harman (+12500 BetMGM)

Brian Harman is carrying a ton of momentum into this week's Open Championship. The lefty finished T12 at the Scottish Open, T9 at the Rocket Mortgage Classic, and T2 at the Travelers in his last three starts. He also finished T6 at last year's Open and T19 the year prior.

Harman is riding an impressive run of form that's seen him gain strokes putting in six straight events. As a player who fares best on positional courses, Harman should be set up for another strong finish this week.

Yannik Paul (+50000 FanDuel)

Let's take a deep dive down the odds board for our last two bombs.

Yannik Paul has been one of the best players on the DP World Tour all season. The German has recorded seven top-25 finishes and five top-10s in his last 11 starts, and he hasn't missed a cut since February. Before last week, Paul was third on the European Ryder Cup standings behind only Rory McIlroy and Jon Rahm, and he still has a chance to automatically qualify with a strong finish to the season. Pricing him alongside John Daly and Ernie Els makes no sense to me.

Daniel Hillier (+50000 FD)

There aren't many players entering the Open Championship in better form than Daniel Hillier. The 24-year-old has three top-five finishes in his last four starts on the DP World Tour, highlighted by his win at the Betfred British Masters earlier this month.

Hillier can be inconsistent with the putter, but he's gained more than 11 strokes on approach and more than eight strokes off the tee over his last three worldwide starts. I'll ride the hot ball striking form here.
