Golf best bets: 3 outright bets to target for the Rocket Mortgage Classic

We're entering a bit of a dead zone on the PGA Tour calendar. The next elevated event isn't until the Open Championship in a month, so many of the top players in the world are going to use these next three weeks to rest up for the final major championship of the year.

Only five of the top 20 players in the OWGR will be teeing it up at this week's Rocket Mortgage Classic, but that doesn't mean we can't find value in the outright market. With Detroit Golf Club playing as one of the easiest courses on the PGA Tour, I'll be targeting players who can bomb it off the tee and go low when the putter gets hot.

Here are the three bets I placed right away.

Max Homa (+1800 DraftKings)

The top of the odds board for the Rocket Mortgage Classic is a mess. I don't like Tony Finau at 12/1 even though he's the most likely winner, and the next tier of Rickie Fowler, Justin Thomas, Collin Morikawa, and Hideki Matsuyama isn't bettable at the current prices. The one player at the top that does interest me is Max Homa at 18/1.

Homa ranks eighth on the PGA Tour this season in strokes gained putting, and he's gained strokes on the green in 11 of his last 15 starts. The 32-year-old is a proven winner with six PGA Tour victories and two this season alone. Homa is coming off two straight missed cuts, but that's created a valuable outright price on the best all-around player in this field.

Byeong-Hun An (+6600 BetMGM)

Byeong-Hun An is my favorite outright bet for the Rocket Mortgage Classic. The South Korean ranks fifth on Tour this season in driving distance, which will give him a major advantage at a golf course that rewards the bomb-and-gauge strategy. An's downfall all year has been on the greens, as he's lost strokes putting in eight straight starts.

With how far he drives the ball and how well he's been hitting his irons lately, An will set himself up for a ton of close birdie and eagle looks this week. If the putter catches fire, I love his chances.

Joseph Bramlett (+8000 BetMGM)

Another bomber who can't putt to save his life? Sign me up!

Joseph Bramlett ranks 11th on Tour this season in driving distance but 150th in strokes gained: putting. The flatstick might be coming to life at the right time, though, as Bramlett has gained strokes on the green in two straight starts and three of his last four. The bomber with the hottest putter is going to win this week, and I think that could be Bramlett.
