Golf best bets: Outright picks for the Farmers Insurance Open

After a few mediocre events in a row, the PGA Tour starts to heat up this week with the Farmers Insurance Open from iconic Torrey Pines. Because Torrey Pines South is one of the longest courses on Tour at nearly 7,800 yards, we're looking for bombers who can shorten the course and give themselves easier birdie opportunities.

With that in mind, here are the three outright bets we're targeting for the Farmers Insurance Open.

Min Woo Lee (+2800 MetMGM)

Min Woo Lee is an up-and-coming star. The 25-year-old bombs the ball thanks to his impressive club head speed, and he has an excellent short game to boot.

Over his last six starts worldwide, Lee has two wins and no finishes worse than T21. He hasn't missed a cut since the AT&T Byron Nelson in May, and he has seven top-10 finishes in that span. Lee is a great fit for Torrey Pines, so he's our favorite bet near the top of the board.

Taylor Pendrith (+10000 BetMGM)

Looking a bit deeper down the odds board, Taylor Pendrith presents some value at 100/1. The Canadian missed the cut last week at The American Express, but he recorded four top-15 finishes in five starts before then.

Pendrith's greatest strength is his driver. He can struggle on the greens, but he loves putting on poa annua surfaces, which is what he'll see at Torrey Pines this week. Pendrith has gained strokes on the green in two straight starts at the Farmers Insurance Open, and his best putting performance last season came at Pebble Beach, another California course with poa greens.

Chris Gotterup (+35000 FD)

The first three winners of the 2024 season cashed in at odds of 150/1 or higher, highlighted by amateur Nick Dunlap winning last week as a 500/1 longshot. Let's ride the longshot train with a 350/1 bomb this week.

Chris Gotterup is a true bomber in every sense of the word, and he's gained strokes on the green in both of his starts on PGA Tour courses with poa annua greens. If the irons come to play this week, Gotterup fits the mold as a longshot who could conquer Torrey Pines.
