Jordan Spieth gives fan half of his sandwich during FedEx St. Jude Championship
Chris Day/The Commercial Appeal / USA TODAY NETWORK

Jordan Spieth had a rare interaction with a fan on Saturday at the FedEx St. Jude Championship. It’s not often that fans talk to players about the snacks that they’re eating on their rounds. Spieth pulled out a peanut butter and banana sandwich after his tee shot on the 16th hole. The fan proceeded to ask, “Having a little snack?” Then Spieth asked him, “Want half? It’s peanut butter and banana.” Then he split half of his sandwich with the fan.

It’s definitely one of the more unique interactions you’ll ever come across on the golf course, especially for the PGA Tour. In a time where golf fans are constantly hearing about the players on the LIV Tour and the PGA Tour fighting, this is a refreshing moment from Spieth. It’s great to see the players connect with the fans like this.

This was a tremendous way for professional golfers to connect with their fans. To be fair, Spieth was in a good mood because he’s playing well. He currently sits at T4 at 11-under at TPC Southwind in Memphis, Tennessee. Heading into Sunday, he only sits three strokes behind Lucas Glover, who leads the tournament at 14-under.

Spieth also came out to sign plenty of autographs for fans earlier in the weekend–despite the scorching heat. He’s been having a very good season so far with six Top 10 finishes, including a Top 5 finish at The Masters. The former Longhorn currently sits 31st in the FedExCup standings, but that number could improve substantially with a top 10 finish this weekend.

This weekend’s tournament is the first leg of the FedEx Cup Playoffs. August 17th-August 20th is the BMW Championship. And then August 24th-August 27th is the TOUR Championship.

If Spieth finishes inside the Top 30 of the FedEx Cup standings, he’ll qualify for the Tour Championship at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta, Georgia. Those 30 players will compete for the biggest prize purse in all of golf. The winner of the 2023 FedEx Cup will bring home a cool $18 million.

Jordan Spieth has enjoyed a remarkable golf career thus far

Few players out there have the track record at Augusta National that Spieth does. The place brings out his creativity and feel around the greens better than just about any course on tour and it shows in his results. Since 2014, he has six top finishes in the Top 5 (T2, Win, T2, 3, T3, and T3). He also won the green jacket back in 2015.

He’s already won 13 times on the PGA Tour during his prolific career, including three of the four majors (he finished second at the PGA Championship in 2015). During his win at Augusta National, Spieth set the record for the most birdies during The Masters (28) and also became the second-person ever to win the most prestigious event in all of golf. Spieth’s last win on the PGA Tour came in the 2022 version of the RBC Heritage in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. He shot 13-under for the tournament and defeated Patrick Cantlay in a playoff.
