Nick Faldo: Tiger Woods is 'rarest of the rarest' after comeback at Masters

Tiger Woods did more than just compete at this year's Masters tournament roughly 14 months after his horrific car accident that nearly cost him at least his leg, as the 46-year-old shot a one-under 71 for his opening round at Augusta National Golf Club and ultimately made the cut. However, the 15-time major champion with five green jackets stumbled over the weekend and finished the event 13 over par.

Nevertheless, fellow golf icon Nick Faldo was clearly impressed with what Woods was able to achieve on one of the sport's biggest stages. 

"To come out of the gates and straightaway be competitive against the world's best who have been playing every week [is great]," Faldo told Sky Sports for a piece published Monday. "He is the rarest of the rarest.

"People do not appreciate what he has had to do physically to get back to this. It is darn impressive. He did not leave a bed for three months due to healing and then wanted to play golf for fun." 

Woods admitted after Sunday's round that he "won't be playing a full schedule ever again" following last year's terrifying accident but added he intends to compete in The Open at St. Andrews in July. He hasn't yet committed to playing at the PGA Championship that gets underway on May 19.
