Nike golfers set to wear Beatles-inspired shoes at Open Championship

Major golf tournaments don't just bring out some of the best talent currently playing the game — they also serve as a platform for the world's pros to don some seriously stylish footwear.

Such will be the case at the 151st Open Championship at Royal Liverpool this weekend, where players sponsored by Nike will sport specialty kicks that pay homage to the Beatles.

That's right. Some of the game's best players, including world No. 2 Rory McIlroy, will be rocking one of three exclusive Nike shoes with a redesign inspired by the Fab Four.

According to Golf Monthly, the Nike Air Zoom Victory Tour 3, Nike Air Zoom Infinity Tour NEXT% and the Nike Air Max 1 '86 OG G NRG are the models that got the Beatles-inspired makeover. All designs feature psychedelic '60s-inspired art and writing, with the phrases "Live to Play" and "Play to Live" inscribed on the shoe soles as well as inside the iconic swoosh.

Suffice to say, it's fitting that Nike chose to honor the Beatles at this year's Open Championship. The world's most infamous band hailed from Liverpool and had a rather interesting connection to the game, including the fact that Paul McCartney used to cross a golf course to get from his house to John Lennon's.
