This week's Rocket Mortgage Classic is ripe for longshots, not only because Detroit Golf Club can play out as a putting contest, but also because the betting favorite is up to 14/1 odds. Most of the favorites on the PGA Tour this season have closed around +700, but this field is wide open.

In what should be a volatile tournament this week, let's target a few juicy longshots who will have a great chance to contend at the Rocket Mortgage Classic.

Taylor Pendrith is ... wait for it ... tailor-made for this golf tournament. Corny puns aside, Detroit Golf Club rewards players who can bomb it off the tee and get scorching hot with the putter, and those are Pendrith's greatest strengths. The Canadian ranks 29th on the PGA Tour in driving distance and 13th in putting from 10 feet and in this season. He also finished T2 last year with a score of 21 under par.

Matt Wallace couldn't be entering this week in worse form. The Englishman has missed six cuts in his last eight starts, and he's lost nearly 12 strokes off the tee during that span. Before that horrible stretch, though, he won the Corales Puntacana Championship at 19 under par. Wallace plays his best golf in birdie fests, and he has impressive course history at Detroit Golf Club with a T12 and a T10 in two starts. He's worth a few finishing position bets this week.

Let's try for a bomb. Matti Schmid hasn't played well this season with only six made cuts in 18 starts, but his game should fit Detroit Golf Club well. The 25-year-old absolutely crushes the ball off the tee, as he ranks fourth on Tour in driving distance this year, and he can get blistering hot with the putter at times. Schmid will give himself a ton of good birdie looks as the longest driver in this field. We just have to hope he takes advantage of them.
