How did Tiger Woods perform on his return to PGA Tour at the Genesis Invitational

With the Genesis Invitational being a signature event, it has a higher purse prize than normal events and a limited field. This event on Round One saw plenty of talking points which included the return of Tiger Woods.

Woods made his first competitive start in almost 10 months when he teed off at the Riviera course. He was grouped with Justin Thomas and another returnee Gary Woodland .

The golf great started off strong, shooting a score of 36 on the front nine. However, as the day went on, his rustiness and struggles came up. A brutal shank on the final 18th hole summed up his performance.

This saw him finish the final hole with a bogey and fired a score of 38 on the back nine. This wrapped up his Round 1 performance with a score of 1-over 72, tied for 49th place in the leaderboard.

However, the most surprising of them all was Rory McIlroy‘s performance. The North Irishman just like Woods had a good start but soon found himself way off the tracks in the back nine. McIlroy fired two back-to-back double bogeys on the 15th and 16th hole to complete the day while being 3-over 74.

He will now need a stunning comeback on Round 2 to just even make the cut. It will be interesting to see how this tournament plays out from here now.
