As part of their prospect list reveal, MLB Pipeline is revealing their Top 10 prospects at each position before their Top 100 list. For the shortstop position, Diamondbacks top prospect Jordan Lawlar ranks third on their list behind the Orioles' Jackson Holliday and the White Sox's Colson Montgomery.

Ranking highly at one of the most difficult positions on the field bodes well for Lawlar's prospects of making MLB's Top 100 prospects list. Since he has already placed on Baseball America's Top 100 list, that would make him eligible for the Prospect Promotion Incentive should he make the Opening Day roster. Should Lawlar win the 2024 National League Rookie of the Year, the Diamondbacks would get a first round selection in the 2025 MLB Draft.

Lawlar, 21, has a bright future with the D-backs as their shortstop of the future. He has the ceiling of a five-tool shortstop, with a chance to put up multiple seasons of 20 home runs and 30 stolen bases in his career. His defense also took massive steps forward last year, mostly answering any doubts about his ability to stick at the position. His strong season in the minor leagues earned a promotion to the big league roster, where he struggled to a .129/.206/.129 slash line in his first 34 plate appearances. Lawlar will compete for a spot on the 26-man roster this upcoming spring.
