Former Dodgers Top Prospect DFA'd By NL Central Squad, Wants to Play in Japan
USA TODAY Sports

Andre Jackson is ready to tackle a new frontier.

According to a report from Pittsburgh Pirates beat writer Jason Mackey, Jackson has been designated for assignment by the club. Reportedly, Jackson was okay with this decision -- as a move to Japan appears to be in the cards.

Jackson featured in 12 games for the Pirates this past season. In seven starts, the Arizona native accrued a 4.33 ERA (43.2 IP). It was the lengthiest body of work for a single season.

Before his stint in Pittsburgh, Jackson was a longtime member of the Dodgers organization.

Los Angeles drafted Jackson in the 12th round of the 2017 MLB Draft. For years, he steadily moved his way through the minor leagues. At one point, he was considered among the better pitching prospects in the organization.

Jackson featured for the Dodgers over parts of three seasons (2021-23). He functioned primarily as a long reliever -- though never was given a chance to stick with the big club. He was dealt to Pittsburgh last year in exchange for cash considerations.

With a potential move to Japan now in the cards, Jackson will be looking to reestablish his standing as a professional pitcher. There have been pitchers before who have rehabilitated their careers in Japan before hopping back over across the pond to the States.

At the very least, Jackson can enjoy a new professional journey with some real adventure.
