The Buffalo Bisons are still searching for their first win of the season.

On Saturday afternoon, Toronto’s Triple-A affiliate fell 4-3 to the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders by a score of 4-3, bringing their season record to 0-2.

This is the latest edition of the Minor League recap.

Buffalo Bisons blow another lead:

It took a while for either team to get on the board, but catcher Max McDowell scored the first home run of the game with a solo home run, his first of the season. Last season, he hit six home runs in Double-A with the Philadelphia Phillies organization. So this is a great start for him.

In the next at-bat, Will Robertson hit his first Triple-A home run, a mammoth 427 no-doubter to his pull side. Not only was this his first Triple-A homer, it was also his first Triple-A hit period. Last season with the New Hampshire Fisher Cats, Robertson hit 19 home runs which was the fourth-most in the organization.

The Yankees affiliate scored three runs in the top of the seventh, but the Bisons tied the game with a Nathan Lukes home run in the bottom of the eighth to tie it up. The 29-year-old outfielder led the Bisons in 2022 with 11 home runs and was able to hit five in just 222 plate appearances.

Sadly, former Blue Jay Kevin Smith singled in the top of the ninth on a 0-2 count with two outs, driving in the game-winning run and bringing the Bisons’ record to 0-2.

In total, the Bisons had just four hits, with Orelvis Martinez being the only non-home run hit, a double he tried to stretch into a triple and was thrown out. So not really a great game with the bats despite three home runs.

In terms of pitching, Paolo Espino had a great debut in the Jays organization, finishing with a line of 6 IP, 4 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 5 K. When he signed with the Jays, I don’t think anyone was expecting him to be as good as he’s been so far.

Troy Watson gave up the bulk of the runs, as he finished with a line of 1 IP, 1 H, 3 ER, 2 BB, 1 K. However, he did have four whiffs and had the highest velocity of the game at 98 mph. In his Triple-A debut, Mason Fluharty finished with a line of 1 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 3 K, which is similar to what we saw in Spring Training.

The Bisons will finish up the mini three-game series on Sunday at 1:05 PM ET.  Chad Dallas will make his Triple-A debut to start the game.
