Rangers Pitching Prospect Dazzles in Futures Game
USA TODAY Sports

The All-Star break hasn’t started for the big leaguers just yet, but one member of the Texas Rangers organization has already made a lasting memory in Seattle.

Owen White, the top pitching prospect in the system, started the All-Star Futures Game on Saturday for the American League squad and pitched a perfect inning. The right-hander needed just eight pitches to retire three of the top hitters in the minor leagues.

“I thought it went well,” White said. “I thought I had command of all my sinkers.”

White has pitched for the Rangers this season, making his MLB debut on June 13 before being optioned back to Double-A Frisco the following day. On June 20, he was promoted to Triple-A Round Rock.

White, 23, was selected for the Futures Games a week later. He entered the season as the Texas’ No. 2 prospect, according to MLB.com, and No. 47 overall in all of baseball.

“Being an All-Star is an accomplishment for me,” White said. “Being able to come and show Texas and who we are as an organization and being able to go out there and compete is an honor.”

In his MLB debut out of the Rangers bullpen, White tossed two innings and allowed three earned runs on four hits with one walk and two strikeouts against the Los Angeles Angels.

White made his Triple-A debut for the Express against the Sacramento River Cats on June 23. He went five innings and allowed two earned runs on one hit with three walks and four strikeouts.

The Rangers selected White in the second round selection of the 2018 draft out of Carson High School in China Grove, North Carolina. In 37 games and 35 career starts in the minor leagues, White has posted a 3.46 ERA (68 ER/177.0 IP) with 212 strikeout and 61 walks.
