49ers' Brock Purdy reflects on injury after win at Eagles

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy reflected on the elbow injury he suffered during this past January's NFC Championship Game at the Philadelphia Eagles after he guided the Niners to an impressive 42-19 win in Philadelphia on Sunday. 

"I mean, it was sort of in my mind, yeah," Purdy said following the victory, per Kirk Larrabee of 49ers WebZone. "I got hurt here. You know, that was this year, late in January. But was it going to be the revenge game or anything like that? No, for me it was Week 13. We're going into a whole it's a new year, hostile environment. We needed this game. We need this game. And obviously, we have some really important games coming up, too. So that's where I was at with that." 

Purdy insisted last week he wasn't focusing on the fact that he went down with a torn ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow the last time he played at Lincoln Financial Field. He ultimately completed 19-of-27 pass attempts for 314 yards and four touchdowns versus the Eagles on Sunday to guide the 49ers to a 9-3 record. According to ESPN stats, the 23-year-old began Monday leading the NFL with a 116.1 passer rating, a 75.6 adjusted QBR (tied with Dak Prescott of the Dallas Cowboys), a 70.2% completion percentage and an average of 9.6 yards per pass attempt on the season. Across 12 games, he's tossed 23 touchdown passes and only six interceptions. 

"No one was freaking out or anything," Purdy added about the fact that the Eagles held a 6-0 lead after the first quarter of play. "It was more like, 'Man, we just got to get the ball rolling.' We need a positive play. We need to envision and see a positive play and have some momentum be created off that. And especially for myself as a quarterback, I just needed to see myself completing a ball, get a completion, get things rolling, and we did that."

As of early Monday afternoon, oddschecker listed Purdy second among the betting favorites at +350 odds to earn Most Valuable Player honors for the season. He and the 49ers next host the 6-6 Seattle Seahawks this coming Sunday.
