49ers star calls out Eagles fans after huge win in Philly

San Francisco 49ers star offensive tackle Trent Williams featured for what are currently known as the Washington Commanders from 2010 until he was traded to San Francisco in April 2020 and, thus, knows plenty about playing road games at the Philadelphia Eagles. 

Williams seemed to call Eagles fans out following San Francisco's dominant 42-19 win in Philadelphia this past Sunday. 

"That's one thing that I vividly remember from my years in Washington is that the crowd, although they are loud and they are hostile, one thing about it is they do turn on the team pretty quick," Williams said about Eagles supporters during a Tuesday morning appearance on San Francisco sports radio station KNBR, per David Bonilla of 49ers WebZone. "So my message to my guys is just working the noise early, and it'll be quiet late."

Before Sunday's matchup, the 49ers hadn't played in Philadelphia since quarterback Brock Purdy suffered a serious elbow injury during this past January's NFC Championship Game that the Eagles won 31-7. This time around, San Francisco essentially put the contest to bed with over 10 minutes remaining in the fourth quarter. 

"And third, fourth quarter comes around, you started to see guys starting to beat the traffic," Williams added about what he noticed on Sunday. "So when you go into Philly, that's the only way to plan. It's similar to Seattle. You got to be able to work in the noise early, and then you make the plays you're supposed to make, you take the crowd out of it pretty quick."

Williams and the 49ers may not want to poke the figurative bear too hard considering they could have to travel to Philadelphia again this coming January. Despite Sunday's result, the 10-2 Eagles would hold the No. 1 seed in the NFC over the 9-3 Niners if the playoffs began today. 

As of late Tuesday afternoon, oddschecker listed the 49ers as the betting favorites at +200 odds to represent the NFC in Super Bowl LVIII. The Eagles were second at +280 odds at that same time. 

"And I was really pleased when we started to hear them, and kind of knew that we was turning it into our home stadium, slowly but surely," Williams said about San Francisco fans taking Lincoln Financial Field over in the final minutes of Sunday's victory. 

Members of the Philadelphia faithful could ultimately have the last laugh depending on what occurs during the postseason.
