Bills RB Reveals 'Crazy Story' of Trip to Preseason Game

Buffalo Bills running back Darrynton Evans had one of the highlights of the preseason in Saturday's road win over the Chicago Bears, but he nearly didn't make it to Soldier Field to begin with.

Evans, who stole the show with a highlight-reel 35-yard touchdown run on Saturday, revealed on social media that he didn't take the team flight to the game. Instead, he said that he almost took the eight- to nine-hour drive to Chicago before booking a commercial flight last minute.

For an NFL player who increased his chances of making the 53-man roster, this is quite the predicament to be in.

“Crazy story about this weekend,” Evans wrote. “Almost had to drive to Chicago to make this game due to flight issues. Luckily enough was able to take a commercial flight from Buffalo to Chicago just in time for this game. Wouldn’t miss it for nothing.”

Evans, who signed with the Bills on July 24 following the season-ending injury to running back Nyheim Hines, finished the game with nine carries for 65 yards and the score while adding one catch for eight yards.

A third-round pick by the Tennessee Titans in 2020 out of Appalachian State, Evans spent two seasons in Nashville. He played in six games for the Titans, posting 16 carries for 61 yards. He added four catches for 38 yards and a receiving score. Evans also added nine kickoff returns for 206 yards.

He played in six games for the Bears last season, totaling 14 carries for 64 yards and one catch for 33 yards.

The 25-year-old's best game last season came in Chicago's 31-10 loss to the New York Jets in November. He posted career-best marks in carries (nine), rushing yards (34) and receiving yards.

The Bills have a talented running back room with James Cook, Damien Harris and Latavius Murray. Evans is now aiming to be that final guy to slip into the fold, as he's hoping his impressive touchdown lands him on the 53-man roster.
