Cowboys show serious interest in Day 3 athletic freak linebacker ahead of 2024 NFL Draft
Trevor Ruszkowski-USA TODAY Sports

It's no secret that the Dallas Cowboys need linebacker help starter-wise and backup-wise as Mike Zimmer tries to rebuild the position after his arrival as defensive coordinator.

While a significant first step was taken by adding Eric Kendricks in free agency, the 2024 NFL Draft will be crucial for the improvement of the barren position room.

Chances are the Cowboys will target the position in the early rounds of the Draft but finding a gem in Day 3 would go a long way. They're clearly looking into it as they're reportedly hosting Kentucky's Trevin Wallace in a Top-30 visit ahead of April.

Wallace currently ranks 150th on the 2024 consensus board, which puts him somewhere in the 5th-round range. However, the linebacker's stock is rising after impressive performances at the Senior Bowl and NFL Scouting Combine.

Wallace's testing led to him scoring a 96th percentile Athletic Composite Score per A to Z Sports' metrics, which use 20+ years of historical Combine data. Travis May had this to say about Wallace's high score:

Trevin Wallace's 96th percentile Athletic Composite Score was just a shade above guys like Devin White and Willie Gay Jr. (mainly due to their less than elite agility marks) who were LBs Dallas missed out on in free agency. Leighton Vander Esch was a 94th% athletic profile too, albeit he's larger so certainly not a comp.

Trevin Wallace showed out specifically well in coverage at the Senior Bowl in one-on-ones thanks to his elite athleticism too

That's certainly good company for the prospect out of Kentucky. Wallace also showed strong coverage skills during one-on-ones at the Senior Bowl, which likely has to do mostly with his athleticism.

Wallace's superior athletic skills could perfectly fit a Mike Zimmer defense that asks a lot of its linebackers through disguised coverages and simulated pressures, even though he's far from a finished product.
