Eagles, A.J. Brown Agree to Three-Year, $96 Million Extension

The Philadelphia Eagles and A.J. Brown have agreed to a three-year, $96 million contract extension, with an impressive $84 million guaranteed, according to a report from ESPN.

The $84 million guaranteed in the contract sets a new record in NFL history for a wide receiver, surpassing the $77 million guaranteed recently received by Amon-Ra St. Brown from the Detroit Lions. The $32 million average annual value of the three-year extension also marks the highest for any receiver in the NFL.

The Eagles officially announced the deal on Thursday evening but did not disclose the financial details.

Eagles’ Commitment to Star Receivers

Philadelphia has now secured both of its star receivers for the coming years. Just a few weeks ago, the Eagles extended DeVonta Smith’s contract for three years, valued at $75 million, with $51 million guaranteed. Smith’s contract runs until 2028, while Brown’s goes through 2029.

“We try to be proactive to try to keep this team together,” Eagles general manager Howie Roseman said. “That starts with [owner] Jeffrey [Lurie] and his support like we talked about in our pre-draft press conference and just talking about the benefits of trying to keep it together as much as we possibly can.

“The only way we can possibly do that is by doing deals early. We felt like it was an opportunity to do that here with A.J. Obviously we’ve done a bunch of deals with a bunch of our players, and want to add to that and keep this team together as much as we possibly can. We couldn’t do that without his support in allowing us to do that. We felt like the earlier we did that would be better for us and him, and him knowing that he was going to be here.”

A.J. Brown’s Impact Since Joining the Eagles

Brown’s deal comes nearly two years after the Eagles acquired the three-time Pro Bowler from the Tennessee Titans on draft night and then signed him to a four-year, $100 million contract. Brown has surpassed 1,400 yards receiving in each of his two seasons in Philadelphia while racking up 18 total touchdowns.

Brown was named second-team All-Pro and made his third Pro Bowl last season after catching a career-high 106 passes for 1,456 yards and seven touchdowns. He set an NFL record by recording 125-plus receiving yards in six consecutive games in 2023.

Brown and Smith became the first receiver tandem in Eagles history to each reach 1,000 yards receiving in 2022, and they repeated the feat last season. Teamed with quarterback Jalen Hurts, they’ve helped fuel an offense that ranks fifth in points per game (26.8) over the past two seasons.
