Former Mountaineer Colton McKivitz is headed to the Super Bowl. After coming close and losing in two previous conference championship games since drafting McKivitz in 2020, the 49ers beat the Detroit Lions 34-31 on Sunday night to secure the NFC title.

McKivitz joined San Francisco a year after they appeared in the Super Bowl, ironically losing to the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIV. The 49ers drafted the WVU product in the fifth round of the 2020 NFL Draft.

To this point in his career, McKivitz has played in 40 NFL regular season games and started 17 of them.

During his time in Morgantown, McKivitz was named the co-Big 12 Offensive Lineman of the Year as a junior. In 2019, he was named a first-team All-Big 12 player.

McKivitz and the 49ers will meet the Chiefs in Super Bowl LVIII on Feb. 11 from Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. The game will air nationally on CBS.
