Insider repeats massive Bill Belichick, Falcons, Cowboys claims

Whispers suggesting that Atlanta Falcons owner Arthur Blank wanted to hire Bill Belichick over new head coach Raheem Morris this offseason are growing louder ahead of Super Bowl LVIII.

"My bomb for the Boston audience is this: Bill Belichick didn’t take any jobs," well-known sports handicapper Brandon Lang explained during an appearance on 98.5 The Sports Hub’s "Felger and Mazz" program, as shared by Greg Dudek of NESN. "He interviewed with the Atlanta Falcons and said, 'You know what? Arthur’s going to fire a blank here. Atlanta’s not ready to win. It was nice to interview, but I’m done.'"

CBS Sports NFL analyst Boomer Esiason revealed earlier in the week that he heard from "an NFL executive" who believes Blank "offered" Belichick the job but with "caveats" that essentially prevented the six-time Super Bowl champion head coach from running the club's football operations. Former New England Patriots tight end and current Fox Sports NFL analyst Rob Gronkowski is among knowledgeable individuals who have also hinted that Blank didn't want to hand "that much power and give all the decisions to coach Belichick."

Dudek noted that Lang has a history of breaking news and seemingly was accurate about quarterback Tom Brady wanting to join the Las Vegas Raiders in the spring of 2020. While speaking on 98.5 The Sports Hub, Lang repeated the notion that Dallas Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones could replace head coach Mike McCarthy with Belichick next winter.

"McCarthy is going to wet the bed again," Lang predicted. "Jerry is going to fire him and Bill is going to say, 'All right, Jerry, here I come buddy. Let’s go do it,' and he’s going to end up in Dallas next year."

McCarthy has a 1-3 postseason record with the Cowboys and is out of contract after next season. Lang believes Jones will "make the hard-sell pitch to" Belichick to relocate to Dallas if "America's Team" fails to complete a noteworthy playoff run under McCarthy in January 2025.

Esiason previously mentioned that Belichick may simply be waiting for "a better situation" to return to coaching following his departure from the Patriots in January. Lang's comments indicate people within the NFL community will continue to link Belichick with the Cowboys throughout the spring and summer months.
