Is Rams Ex Darious Williams Free Agent Fit for L.A.?
USA TODAY Sports

As the Los Angeles Rams look to bolster their defense ahead of the upcoming season, they face the challenge of addressing significant coverage issues.

Reuniting with Darious Williams, recently released, could provide an immediate boost.

"The Rams finished last in the NFL in team coverage grade (46.2) this past season. Only three teams had more snaps played in the secondary by first- and second-year players," wrote PFF.

Following his role in the LA Rams' Super Bowl LVI win, Williams tested the NFL free agency waters.

In the 2022 offseason, Williams joined the Jaguars as an unrestricted free agent and started 29 of 34 regular-season games over the past two seasons. During this time, he secured four interceptions, all in 2023, and scored a touchdown with a 61-yard interception return against the Atlanta Falcons.

Williams excelled in coverage in 2023, earning an 85.3 grade, tying for fifth in the league. He particularly shone in zone coverage, ranking in the top five and tallying 15 pass breakups.

However, with the Jaguars seeking salary cap relief, Williams has been released and is back on the market.

"A reunion with the recently released Darious Williams would help. He finished 2023 with an 85.3 coverage grade, tied for fifth in the NFL. He also finished the season with a top-five zone coverage grade, making him a seamless fit in Los Angeles’ defense, and ranked second with 15 pass breakups."

Bringing back Williams would address the Rams' coverage issues and add a proven and familiar playmaker to their defensive arsenal. Potentially elevating their performance in the upcoming season.
