Jerry Jeudy Responds After Broncos Rookie CB 'Stopped' Him 1-on-1

One thing that Denver Broncos rookie cornerback Riley Moss and veteran linebacker Josey Jewell have in common is their alma mater: the University of Iowa. Due to that common tie, Jewell was somewhat familiar with Moss, as well as undrafted rookie linebacker Seth Benson. 

Thus, following an OTA practice, it was with no small measure of mirth that Jewell opted to, in equal parts, give Moss some props for some one-on-one success he had vs. Jerry Jeudy, while also poking a little fun at the veteran wide receiver. 

“I didn’t know him very well, no. Just saw him play at Iowa," Jewell said of Moss on June 8. "I heard a little bit about him... Riley’s had a couple good days. I think he stopped Jeudy one of these days one-on-one, so you’ll have to say something to Jeudy about it. He was a little upset, so a lot of bickering back and forth. But, no, I love to have those Iowa guys here. I think they had a similar culture back at Iowa.”

One week later, when Jeudy was at the podium, he was asked about his impression of Moss, and in good humor, the talented wideout sensed a possible trap, and opted not to take Jewell's bait. 

“You’re trying to be funny (laughs)," Jeudy said. "Josey said it the other day. No, [Moss is] doing his thing. He’s good. He moves fluid. He’s got good hips. He’s pretty good.” 

Jeudy didn't have to compliment Moss, or highlight any of his attributes. But he did, which, I suppose, says something about Jeudy's maturation, and a little something about Moss' wherewithal. 

In one-on-one battles in practice, you win some, lose some. But one thing we've learned since Moss hit the roster is that he makes his opponents (even his teammates in practice) feel his presence. 

“Great dude, obviously," Broncos rookie wideout Marvin Mims, Jr. said back in May. "Love him. We’ve known each other for just two days but just a great guy. Easy to have conversations with and out there, he’s going to make sure you feel him on the field. Even in walkthrough, he’s coming up and tapping me, all that stuff, so it’s great to have him out there.” 

A window into Moss' ethos was opened when he talked about what his understanding is of the responsibilities the Broncos have given him as a rookie third-rounder. 

“Make plays. That’s the biggest thing, especially playing DB," Moss said back in May. "You have to be able to affect the game, and hopefully, get the ball to the offense. I think that’s the biggest thing and doing whatever I need to do and doing it at 100%.”

It's going to be fun to see how Moss continues to cross swords with the Broncos' wide receiver corps when training camp arrives in late July. While such battles can, at times, turn chippy, they're more often displays of brotherly sportsmanship. 

The real joy will be when Broncos Country gets to see Moss deployed against actual opposing wideouts, which will happen when the preseason rolls around in August.
