The Las Vegas Raiders defense has arguably done their job as well as could be reasonably expected so far. While the Raiders are 1-2, statistically speaking, the Raiders' defense has performed in about or near the middle of the numerous NFL defensive statistics. That is, of course, progress from near the bottom of the league in previous seasons.

The Raiders' new additions on the defense are still gelling together, as it is still very early in the season. While progress has been made, more progress could be made as the season progresses. This is not lost on Raiders defender Luke Masterson.

"Taking coaching better. Every week the coaches do a great job of making adjustments that we need to do to win," Masterson. "It's on us to just execute those the best we can and continue to do that week by week."

"We're trying to go 1-0 every week. Take it week by week, focus on the process throughout the week to get ready for the game on Sunday, and take it from there."

A 1-2 start wasn't what anyone in the Raiders organization had in mind at the start of the season. The Raiders have the leaders in the front office and the locker room to help them successfully navigate the ups and downs of an NFL season.

"I think our leaders do a great job of keeping everyone calm and going on to the next play. It's football, mistakes are going to happen, and things are going to happen that don't go your way," Masterson said.

"I think our leaders and our coaches do a great job of keeping us focused on the next play and locked in. After each Sunday, we reset, figure out what we need to do to win that week, and prepare every day to do that."

Few teams find themselves under a microscope like the Raiders. Leadership will play an important part in what direction this season will go.

The Silver and Black return to the road this week in Inglewood, Calif., to play the Los Angeles Chargers (1-2) on Sunday, Oct. 1, at 4:05 p.m. EDT/1:05 p.m. PDT.
