Michael Irvin under investigation for unspecified allegation

Dallas Cowboys legend Michael Irvin is being investigated by police in Texas over an unspecified allegation.

Police in Allen, Texas, confirmed in a statement to Pro Football Talk on Thursday that an investigation has been opened that involves Irvin. A spokesperson said no details of the investigation will be disclosed since it is “in its very early stages.”

Irvin’s lawyer, Levi McCathern, also would not reveal the nature of the allegation when reached by Pro Football Talk. McCathern only said that Irvin “vehemently denies” the allegation and that there is “absolutely no truth” to it. McCathern further expressed his belief that the situation “will turn out to be much ado about nothing.”

Irvin, who works for NFL Network, was removed from on-air coverage of the Super Bowl last year after a female employee at a Marriott-branded hotel in Phoenix reported him for sexual misconduct. Irvin maintained that he did nothing wrong and simply had a conversation with the woman.

Irvin filed a $100 million defamation lawsuit against the woman and the hotel on Feb. 16. Irvin's attorney was granted a motion demanding hotel video of the interaction be released. The video was released in March. The clip showed Irvin having a roughly 2-minute conversation with the woman, and confirmed that he never made physical contact with her, though the clip did not include any audio.

Several months later, Irvin settled the lawsuit and returned to his job with NFL Network. He also makes regular appearances on FOX Sports 1’s “Undisputed.”
