NFL props: Betting on big plays from five players this Sunday

Earlier this week we highlighted three receivers in a good spot for a long catch, so don't miss out on those spots. As we approach NFL Week 3, we have five more spots that look good. This market has been a fun one, let's have ourselves a weekend.

Josh Allen over 37.5 longest completion (-115 MGM) & Gabriel Davis over 22.5 longest reception (-113 CZR)

Lumping these two together. We stacked quarterback and passer last Thursday with Justin Herbert and Mike Williams, and the ideal scenario is these bets cashing together.

So, why are they here? Miami was an extremely vulnerable secondary last season to big plays, and that has maintained to start 2022. The Dolphins have allowed six passes of 20+ yards, but the more exciting metric I want to target is that they've allowed a pair of 40+ yard completions, one in each game. Only the Ravens and Browns have allowed more.

Miami is also tops in two important defensive categories that tend to make me think a big play is coming: opponent's yards per pass attempt and defensive average depth of target. The Dolphins are leagues ahead of the next closest team in these categories. Translation: teams are throwing deep against Miami and completing them with regularity.

Allen has began the year with three 40+ yard passes and seven 20+ yard completions, easily surpassing this 38.5 total in both games this year.

Reports suggest Gabriel Davis is back and ready to go after missing Week 2. Davis had a pair of long catches in Week 1, picking up right where he left off. Four of the six long plays Miami has seen against them have come from receivers. Davis is an elite vertical threat, and as long as he is out there, he's going to be targeted deep.

Christian Kirk over 22.5 longest reception (-110 DK)

Through two weeks, the Chargers secondary has been quite generous to big plays, especially from receivers. Los Angeles has allowed eight passes of 20+ yards and their DADOT of 8.7 is fifth-highest in the NFL.

In Week 1, top receiver Davante Adams broke free for three 20+ catches against this defense, and both of Mecole Hardman and Justin Watson got past the secondary for a long completion in Week 2.

Christian Kirk has been a volume king in Jacksonville, leading the team with 16 targets. He has a pair of 20+ yard catches in both games, with a long of 49 in Week 1 and 26 in Week 2. While he was on the Cardinals last season, Kirk is over this 22.5 line in the last five games he's played. He's in a good spot this weekend to keep it going, and in what could be a high-scoring affair, Trevor Lawrence is sure to look Kirk's way.

DJ Chark over 18.5 longest reception (-113 CZR)

This is your boom-or-bust type play, as DJ Chark was held without a catch in Week 2 on four targets. The role is here for Chark, as he has five targets 20+ yards down the field in just two games. His aDOT is an absurd 18.0. I have to bet on a long reception line when it coincides with where he is being targeted down the field, especially with a matchup like Minnesota.

The Vikings were tied for 11th-most 20+ yard passes allowed last season, and they've already seen seven against them this season. Minnesota is allowing opponents to average 7.9 yards per pass attempt, third-most in the league.

Chark had a long of 22 in Week 1 and with the Vikings defense likely honing in on Amon-Ra St. Brown, Chark will have his 1-on-1 matchups to exploit.

Garrett Wilson over 19.5 longest reception (-110 DK)

Garrett Wilson is trending up big time, fresh off an 8-catch, 102 yards, two touchdowns game against the Browns last Sunday. The rookie receiver's snaps should only continue to grow in this offense, and he's proven to add a vertical element to this offense.

His aDOT of 11.4 is respectable for a long play prop, and he's been targeted twice 20+ yards down the field, second to only Corey Davis (who is a good option too).

Wilson saw 12 targets in Week 2 after seeing eight in his professional debut. He had a long of 19 yards in Week 1 and 31 last week.

This Sunday, it's the Bengals. Cincinnati has allowed nine passes of 20+ yards already, second-most in the NFL. Five of those have come from the receiver position, with Noah Brown torching this defense last week.

Slot and outside receivers have both taken advantage of the Bengals this year, and Wilson lines up all over the field and should get some mismatches on Sunday. A bet here is a bet on continued volume and targets from Joe Flacco. Wilson looks great.

Enjoy your Sunday!
