Packers QB Jordan Love compared to future Hall of Famer
Green Bay Packers QB Jordan Love Lon Horwedel-USA TODAY Sports

The Green Bay Packers took a risk selecting Jordan Love in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft. With Hall of Famer Aaron Rodgers still on the roster and a Super Bowl in their sights many people did not seem to understand the strategy. Rodgers proceeded under contract with the Packers, winning two consecutive NFL MVP awards but lacking deep success in the playoffs.

Come the 2023-24 season Love finally got his chance at QB1 for the Packers after Rodgers was shipped off to the New York Jets. Despite an up-and-down start, Love put together an impressive debut campaign tallying over 4,000 yards and 30 touchdowns, along with a massive playoff win in the wild-card round against the Dallas Cowboys.

Love had learned and worked in his time behind Rodgers. From things like cadence, play-action fakes and release, Love felt like a mirror of Rodgers throughout his first season as the Packers starting QB. He was not perfect but given his growth just throughout the season, Love could look like an MVP candidate if he puts in the proper offseason training. According to a former NFL QB, it seems that is exactly what Love is doing this spring.

Former NFL QB Chase Daniel praises Green Bay Packers QB Jordan Love

Chase Daniel was an NFL quarterback for over a decade, mostly as a backup but a serviceable one at that. Daniel is now an NFL analyst at NFL Network and The Athletic, taking a deep look at the game he knows very well. In the 2024 offseason, Daniel turned his analysis to Love, comparing him to a long-time teammate and future NFL Hall of Fame QB Drew Brees.

To hear off-eason work is going on with young stars is always exciting, But in this case, it is also telling. Daniel backed up Brees for four years, likely garnering a respectable relationship with the two-time Offensive Player of the Year and Super Bowl MVP. If anyone knows what it looks like to work with greatness it is Chase Daniel.

With Love, the only thing he has to focus on this NFL offseason is his work. He seems to understand that as he enters a meticulous training regime all the way in the month of March. Not that he needs (or even wants) to hear praise for it, there is not much higher praise for a QB than to be compared to an NFL legend like Brees. Love seems to be very locked into the idea of winning a Super Bowl despite the Packers’ youth and for good reason.

“Those conversations we had after that 49ers game were ‘Work harder, try to find ways to get better, because next year we’re gonna do it,'” Love said on "The Pivot Podcast." “There’s no more ‘we’re a young team,’ there’s no more those what ifs. People know what we’re about now. Obviously, we’ll have that target on our back now, people are gonna want to beat us. We’re hungry.”

With the Packers having a productive offseason, they will be a hard team to beat if Love is as locked in as he appears.
