Patrick Mahomes, who’s often compared to Tom Brady, admits he’s nowhere close to becoming the GOAT despite winning back-to-back Super Bowls
Jay Biggerstaff-USA TODAY Sports

Until 2023, the mere thought of another quarterback tallying or eclipsing Tom Brady ‘s all-time record of winning seven Super Bowls and making it to ten of them appeared to be a far fetch. That was until Patrick Mahomes led the Kansas City Chiefs to back-to-back victories in the big game.

Since achieving immense success in his first season, Patrick Mahomes has been compared to Tom Brady at every step. The Kansas City Chiefs quarterback has begun to make fans entertain the possibility of him eclipsing Brady with some believing he is close to achieving this feat. While it feels great to be compared to the best ever to do it, Mahomes does not view himself as being anywhere close to TB12.

Mahomes revealed his thoughts on the constant comparison to Brady.

I've had a great run. I think I've done a great job. But it's hard to take away from what Tom did for so long, what Peyton did, or Rodgers. In order to be in that conversation, you have to do that on a year-to-year basis. Patrick Mahomes told Sean Gregory of TIME

Patrick Mahomes has more Super Bowl wins than Peyton Manning

Mahomes, in his six years of playing in the NFL, has won three Super Bowls and SB MVP awards, he has won two NFL MVP Awards, one Offensive Player of the Year Award, has made the Pro Bowl every year since starting for the Chiefs, and has turned the Chiefs into a dynasty.

The quarterback has beaten Peyton Manning in terms of Super Bowl victories; he is just one ring short of tallying Joe Montana and has beaten Brady in terms of regular season MVP wins. The scary part is Mahomes is still at the beginning of his prime. He has a lot more to offer. It is realistic to believe that he has a legitimate shot at beating Tom Brady.

But as he admits, Brady, Manning, and Rodgers are all considered great, not because of the number of rings they have. It is because they were able to perform at an elite level consistently for years.

The question is can Patrick Mahomes achieve that consistency? So far, he has shown the fans he can do so but this season; he did look vulnerable at times and seemed human. With defenses in the league constantly evolving, will Mahomes be able to outsmart his opponents every year, or will the league’s defenses catch up to him? Time will dictate this.
