Raiders Under Contract: QB Brian Hoyer
USA TODAY Sports

The Las Vegas Raiders had quite the mix of experience in their quarterback room this season.

It was a completely new group that included Jimmy Garoppolo, one of the league's winningest quarterbacks, rookie Aidan O'Connell, and Brian Hoyer, a 15-year veteran.

Under the former Dave Ziegler-Josh McDaniels regime, the Raiders added Hoyer in free agency, signing him to a two-year, $4.5-million contract. He had three different stints with the New England Patriots, two of which included three-plus seasons with McDaniels as his offensive coordinator.

Hoyer's contribution to the Raiders is more so through his work with his teammates in the facility on the practice field. While his years as a full-time starter in this league are behind him, any team would want a quarterback with 15 years of experience in their room, especially to help guide an up-and-comer like O'Connell.

Hoyer did play three games for the Silver and Black this season, though, including one start. In Week 6, the veteran was asked to replace an injured Garoppolo for the second half. Hoyer was able to hold off a comeback attempt from his former team, New England, and lead the Raiders to a 21-17 victory and a .500 record.

It was Hoyer's first game since Week 4 of the 2022 season. He finished with 102 passing yards on just six completions in Las Vegas' victory.

The following week, Hoyer got the start against the Chicago Bears. He recorded 129 passing yards and two interceptions en route to the Raiders' dreadful 30-12 loss.

With the possibility of the Raiders considering to add to their quarterback room this offseason, Hoyer could be out the door by the start of next season.

From February 27 to March 4, 2024, the NFL Scouting Combine will be held at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Ind.

The NFL Draft will be held in Detroit, Mich., on April 25-27, 2024. The Las Vegas Raiders currently hold the No. 13 overall pick.
