Ravens Make Bold Roster Move Before First Playoff Game
Jessica Rapfogel-USA TODAY Sports

The Baltimore Ravens, who had a remarkable 13-4 season, earned a well-deserved first-round bye. While awaiting their AFC Divisional Round opponent, the team made some significant roster moves.

On Monday, the Ravens took the decision to place defensive back Damarion Williams on injured reserve, given his extensive recovery process from a preseason ankle surgery. Williams, who had played 14 games in 2022, spent a staggering 14 weeks on the IR before making his return to the field during Week 18, where he contributed on special teams.

Meanwhile, wide receiver Laquon Treadwell, who had been with his fifth team in as many years, was waived by the Ravens. Treadwell, a former first-round pick, spent the majority of the 2023 season on the practice squad and didn’t receive any targets until grabbing a 16-yard reception in Week 18.

These roster moves on Monday have provided the Ravens with much-needed flexibility as they prepare for their postseason matchup.

Notably, the Ravens recently designated Mark Andrews for a return from the IR just three days ago. The star tight end had been sidelined for the final six games of the regular season due to a fractured fibula. In the 10 games he played, Andrews had an impressive record, catching 45 of 61 targets for 544 yards and six touchdowns. He had been the team’s leader in both catches and receiving yards for the past two seasons, although in 2023, Lamar Jackson received significant support from Zay Flowers and Odell Beckham Jr.

Baltimore also has the option to activate running back Dalvin Cook, who joined the practice squad earlier this month. Cook, a four-time Pro Bowler, had an average of 3.2 yards per carry before being released by the New York Jets.

The Ravens’ next opponent in the postseason will be determined by the outcome of Monday’s game between the Houston Texans and the Pittsburgh Steelers, as they await their Divisional Round clash.
