Report: The Baltimore Ravens Have Waived a Former 1st Round Wide Receiver
Steve Roberts-USA TODAY Sports

The 1st seed Baltimore Ravens host the 4th seed Houston Texans in the Divisional Round at M&T Stadium on Saturday at 3:30 P.M. Central Time.

Baltimore’s offense has improved from last season. They are ranked 4th in points, 6th in yards, 20th in turnovers, 7th in first downs, and 21st in passing yards.

The Ravens waived a veteran wide receiver.

The Baltimore Ravens waived a former 1st round pick yesterday.

The Ravens waived wide receiver Laquon Treadwell yesterday.

Treadwell signed with the team on June 5. He was released on August 29 but re-signed to their practice squad. He was elevated to the active roster for Week 4 and 5.

He was then promoted to the active roster on December 30. He appeared in five games and started one. He had one reception on three targets for 16 yards.

There are two reasons why he was released.

Reason number one:

He was waived because their wide receivers are getting healthier. Treadwell was on the active roster because their receiving corps was banged up during the regular season.

Zay Flowers missed Week 18 because of a calf injury. He returned to practice and is expected to play this week.

Rashod Bateman missed Week 4 because of a hamstring injury.

Odell Beckham Jr. missed Weeks 3 and 4 due to an ankle injury. He suffered a shoulder injury in Week 11 but didn’t miss any games because of it.

Devin Duvernay suffered a back injury in Week 14 and was placed on injured reserve. Duvernay was designated for return and will likely be activated in the next few days.

Tylan Wallace suffered a hamstring injury in Week 3 and missed Weeks 4-8.

Reason number two:

He was waived because they needed to make room for one of three players to get activated off injured reserve. The Ravens designated Mark Andrews, Devin Duvernay, and Ar’Darius Washington for return from injured reserve.

Since their roster is full, they needed to make room for one of these players to get activated.

Is this the end for Treadwell?

There’s a good chance that this might be the end of Laquon Treadwell’s NFL career as far as being on an active roster.

Ever since the Minnesota Vikings drafted Treadwell in the 1st round, 23rd overall in the 2016 NFL Draft, he has been on 7 teams.

He started his first four years with Minnesota but never solidified a role in the offense.

He spent the majority of his fifth season on the Atlanta Falcons practice squad. He played in their last five games.

He was on the Jacksonville Jaguars active roster during his sixth season and appeared in 12 games.
Jacksonville re-signed him for the 2022 season but was released during roster cuts in his seventh season.

Also, in his seventh year, he was on the New England Patriots practice squad from September 6 to October 4. He then signed to the Arizona Cardinals practice squad and was there from October 12 to October 26. Finally, the Seattle Seahawks signed him to the practice squad on December 6, and played the last six games of the 2022 season.

Where will Laquon Treadwell sign with, and will he make a 53-man roster next season?
