Report: The Baltimore Ravens Placed their Young Cornerback on Injured Reserve, Ending his 2023 Season.
Joseph Maiorana-USA TODAY Sports

The Baltimore Ravens host the Houston Texans in the Divisional Round at M&T Bank Stadium on Saturday, January 20, at 3:30 P.M. Central Time.

Baltimore’s elite defense has accomplished a feat that has never been accomplished in the NFL. They are the first defense to finish the regular season with a triple crown. The triple crown refers to a defense that allows the fewest points, records the most sacks, and the most takeaways. Baltimore allowed the fewest points with 280, recorded the most sacks with 60, and the most takeaways with 31.

Unfortunately for the Ravens’ defense, they will not have their young cornerback for the remainder of the playoffs.

The Baltimore Ravens placed their second-year cornerback on injured reserve.

Damarion Williams competed with Brandon Stephens, and Arthur Maulet for the CB3 spot during training camp. Williams underwent ankle surgery after injuring his ankle during practice and was placed on injured reserve to start the season.

Williams was activated off injured reserve on December 12 and made his season debut in Week 18 on special teams, fielding punts and covering kicks.

Williams reinjured his ankle, and Baltimore placed him on injured reserve, ending his 2023 season.

Who was his replacement/CB3?

Due to Marlon Humphrey missing the first four games with a foot injury and Williams being placed on injured reserve, Stephens replaced Humphrey in his position, resulting in Maulet taking over as CB3.

Maulet appeared in 14 games and started four, recording 37 tackles, five for a loss, three quarterback hits, two sacks, one interception, and five pass deflections.

Maulet allowed 27 receptions on 49 targets for 309 yards and a passer rating of 65.8 allowed in coverage.

Why does this move matter?

The Ravens placed Williams on injured reserve to make room for one of three players to get activated off injured reserve.

Since Baltimore’s roster is full, they need to make roster moves in order for them to activate Mark Andrews, Devin Duvernay, and Ar’Darius Washington off injured reserve.
