San Francisco 49ers: Trent Williams’ Inspiring Actions on Niners’ Game-Winning Drive
Darren Yamashita-USA TODAY Sports

Some are already looking at the San Francisco 49ers as slight underdogs if they ever get to face the Baltimore Ravens at Super Bowl LVIII after their narrow win over the Green Bay Packers last week.

However, Trent Williams would like to say a few words about that.

Trent Williams was essential to the San Francisco 49ers win

The Niners Faithful who watched the game unfold were definitely given a stir by their team as they failed to break free from the upstart Packers. At certain points of the game, it did seem like they were going to end the season in disappointing fashion.

However, The Athletic’s Matthew Barrows reported that Williams made sure they didn’t go out on a whimper. The man who rarely speaks up made his presence known.

And everybody listened.

“So whatever you’ve got, bring it,” Williams recounted. “Bring it the next play and then bring it the next play after that.”

The offense, which had been hot and cold to that point, did just that, embarking on a 12-play drive that ended with a McCaffrey touchdown run. Teammates said they knew what was on the line before the drive began. Williams’ words underscored the gravity.

The offense then went on to win the game and set a date with another upstart in the Detroit Lions. They will likely need his leadership once again to beat a team that’s been effective both on offense and defense.

The Niners faithful are definitely happy they have the man on board. They’ll be even more ecstatic for next season after the team’s oldest player confirmed that he’ll be playing his 14th season with the Niners.

The Trent Williams and Deebo Samuel Connection

Another thing that would endear Williams to fans would be the fact that he’s a major reason why Deebo Samuel reneged on his trade demands.

ESPN’s Nick Wagoner detailed how the seasoned tackle was key to Deebo signing a new deal to stay in San Francisco:

We was just chilling,” Samuel told ESPN, smiling at the memory while sitting near Williams on another couch in the 49ers’ public relations office. “And then we just went crazy.”

Samuel jumped off the couch, yelled and bolted out the door, running up and down the street of Williams’ Morgan Hill neighborhood in celebration. Williams, who served as consigliere to Samuel and Niners coach Kyle Shanahan throughout the negotiations, filmed it all.

“I just went on ahead and started recording,” Williams said. “I needed to capture that memory.”

It’s undeniable that Williams is a big part of what makes the dynamic Niners offense work, and the Faithful can count on him to protect Brock Purdy as he tries to dissect a pesky Detroit defense.
