When Henrik Lundqvist announced that he would not participate in the 2020-21 NHL season due to a heart condition, the Washington Capitals were left without a top-two goaltender.
The Capitals are now expected to use Ilya Samsonov as their No. 1 goaltender, but they still need a reliable No. 2. With that in mind, Washington signed veteran goaltender Craig Anderson to a professional tryout agreement on Sunday.

The 39-year-old's contract with the Ottawa Senators expired at the end of the 2019-20 campaign, and the team announced it they would not be giving him a new deal. During his final season in Ottawa, Anderson posted an 11-17-2 record with a 3.25 goals-against average and .902 save percentage.
He spent 10 seasons with the Senators, but he also played for the Chicago Blackhawks, Florida Panthers and Colorado Avalanche.
