Marc Del Gaizo Joins Predators on Five Game Road Trip
USA TODAY Sports

The Nashville Predators have recalled defenseman Marc Del Gaizo ahead of their five game road trip out west. Del Gaizo will join the team and provide a seventh defenseman as Luke Schenn is on IR.

Del Gaizo had a very good performance at training camp and in the preseason for the Predators before heading to Milwaukee to start the AHL season. Del Gaizo has played each of the five games of the season so far for the Admirals and has one assist.

In 2022-23, the New Jersey native played 71 regular season games for the Admirals and scored three goals and 31 points, but he was not one of the young players called up to Nashville in the spring as Predators veterans went down with injuries. Del Gaizo admitted in training camp that not being one of the players given an NHL chance last season helped fuel his determination to prove himself in training camp.

"Last year I thought I had a good season and didn't get an opportunity. I wasn't one of the guys who got an opportunity," Del Gaizo said. "I've got a big chip on my shoulder right now. I'm just trying to prove I can play at this level and do it everyday."

Del Gaizo continued to work on rounding out his game this offseason after being an important piece in the Admirals' deep playoff run at the end of last season. In his 16 postseason games, Del Gaizo scored four goals and 12 points. He spent time on the power play for Milwaukee as well.

It remains to be seen if Del Gaizo will finally get the NHL start on this road trip he has worked so hard for. Luke Schenn remains on IR, but the Predators have had success with the defensive pairings of Roman Josi and Dante Fabbro, Ryan McDonagh and Alexandre Carrier, and Tyson Barrie and Jeremy Lauzon in Schenn's absence. If there are any issues with the defensemen on the trip, Del Gaizo will be ready to seize his opportunity.
