Nashville Predators Make Commitment to Tommy Novak
Christopher Hanewinckel-USA TODAY Sports

The Nashville Predators made a significant signing on Monday, March 4th, extending Tommy Novak for three more years. His new contract is worth $10.5 million and carries a salary cap hit of $3.5 million. The extension is the team recognizing Novak’s potential and value to their organization.

“It’s a pretty amazing thing,” Novak said. “Just thinking back on when I started playing hockey and where I came from in this organization to now, it’s really special. And I’m truly grateful for the organization giving me the opportunities that I’ve gotten and hopefully I can keep a career going.”

Novak, is a promising young player, has shown skill and potential on the ice, making him an essential part of the team’s plans. Over the last 81 NHL games, Tommy Novak has scored 61 points, playing predominantly on a line with a Rookie winger and getting third-line minutes. However, he has the potential to play in the Predators’ top-six.

By signing Novak to a contract extension, the Predators demonstrate their belief in his abilities and commitment to his development as a player. This move also provides stability for the team, ensuring they have a talented player in their lineup for the long term. Novak has won over the coaching staff and coach Andrew Brunette is rolling all four lines to equal time which is a rarity in the NHL.

General manager Barry Trotz liked Thomas Novak as a player. During his weekly radio segment on 102.5 The Game in Nashville Trotz discussed the Novak situation.

“I talked to [his] representatives [Tuesday],” Trotz said. “The framework is there. We just got to make sure the years and numbers match. If they do, then we’ll probably do something. If we can’t, then I’m in a position not to…I don’t think I can let a guy like Tommy Novak go for nothing. I’ve got to get something if he’s not signed by the trade deadline.”

The two parties were close to an extension and took significant strides to make this deal happen.

Additionally, signing Novak to a contract extension can positively affect team morale and chemistry. Knowing that a key player like Novak is committed to the team can boost morale among the players and help build a sense of unity and purpose.

As previously mentioned, Novak’s name was in the rumor mill. Multiple teams like the New York Rangers, Vegas Golden Knights, and Boston Bruins were hot on Tommy Novak’s trail. The Predators have thrown a huge curve in the trade market, especially with their current eight-game winning streak.

Overall, the signing of Tommy Novak to a contract extension by the Nashville Predators is a significant move highlighting the team’s investment in their future success and their belief in Novak as a valuable asset to their organization.
