Nashville Predators' Roman Josi day-to-day with injury
Nashville Predators defenseman Roman Josi Christopher Hanewinckel-USA TODAY Sports

The Nashville Predators will be without defenseman Roman Josi for Sunday’s game against the New York Rangers, as he is day-to-day with an injury.

Josi left Saturday’s game against the Winnipeg Jets in the first period, and did not return for the second and third period. It’s unclear as to what caused the injury, as well as the specifics of the injury, but it appears that it will just be a short-term issue.

Josi left the game with just 2:29 of ice time, and a shot, a blocked shot, and a takeaway. The Predators were up 1-0 when he left, but blew the 1-0 and 2-1 lead in the third period to lose to the Jets in overtime.

Josi is having a typical season by his standards, with 18 goals, 41 assists, and 59 points in 67 games played this season. It’s a step back from last season, but that just shows how amazing his last season was, with 23 goals, 73 assists, and 96 points in 80 games, good enough to get him second in Norris trophy voting, as well as the most first place votes.

There’s no confirmation as to who will replace Josi in the lineup today. Ryan McDonagh could be possible as he is also day-to-day and missed Saturday’s game, but there’s no word on if he’s healthy enough to play today. Alexandre Carrier is on the roster but also out with an injury. McDonagh has a goal, 14 assists, and 15 points in 57 games this season, while Carrier has two goals, seven assists, and nine points in 43 games.

It’s another injury for the Preds, as along with McDonagh and Carrier, Nashville is also dealing with injuries to Filip Forsberg, Ryan Johansen, Mark Borowiecki, and Juuso Parssinen. Despite that, they’ve been making a late playoff push even after selling at the trade deadline, as they are just five points behind the Winnipeg Jets for the final wild card with a 34-25-8 record, with three games in hand as well.
