Napoli disappointed in their goalless draw with Monza and president Aurelio De Laurentiis tried to cheer up the squad after the full-time whistle.

The Partenopei dominated proceedings in the Campania capital on Friday evening but were unable to break the deadlock in front of a tense crowd. Walter Mazzarri’s side were lucky to escape with a point after Alex Meret saved a penalty in the 68th minute.

De Laurentiis surprised many by showing up in the post-match press conference, taking full responsibility for the club’s issues this season and promising reinforcements in the coming January transfer window.

As reported by Il Mattino via TMW, De Laurentiis joined the Napoli squad in the dressing room after the full-time whistle, complimenting the players for their performance and trying to cheer them up ahead of the second half of the season.

The Napoli president has been widely criticised by the club’s fanbase for his decisions over the last few months, with many still angry at his decision to appoint Rudi Garcia in the summer.

He also provided support to Giovanni Simeone, who has been disappointed with his lack of playing time this term.
