Morten Hjulmand has now responded to links with a move to Tottenham Hotspur on the back of an impressive season with Sporting CP.

Tottenham Hotspur are looking to reinforce their squad ahead of next season as they look to provide Ange Postecoglou with the needed resources to take them to the next level. Morten Hjulmand is one of their targets to bolster their midfield.

The 24-year-old has had a sensational season with Sporting CP. He has been a rock in front of their backline and his performances have resulted in interest from some of the biggest clubs from across Europe. He has been linked with Tottenham along with a few other top clubs.

While speaking to Portuguese newspaper Record, the Danish midfielder reacted to being linked with the big clubs.

Hjulmand said to Record via SportWitness: “I haven’t thought about it. There are rumours all the time about different players, coaches and clubs. It’s normal.

“It’s not something a player should waste energy or time on. We need to have our minds focused elsewhere: here, on our day-to-day lives, when we have so many games to play.

“I can say that this time at Sporting has been incredible. I really enjoy coming to train every day, I like living in Portugal and I still have a long-term contract with Sporting. Of course I want to stay at the club.”

Despite being linked with some of the biggest clubs in the world, Sporting’s midfield star seems focused on the task at hand. He is loving life at the Portuguese club and looks all set to continue at the club.

While it looks unlikely that he will make a move in the upcoming transfer window, the Danish international didn’t rule out a potential transfer to the Premier League in the future.

On his desire to play in England, the 24-year-old said: “Maybe one day it will be the right time to go to the Premier League… But I’m very happy where I am now and with my life at Sporting”.

Tottenham are one of the clubs looking to strengthen their midfield by signing Hjulmand but it seems they will have to look elsewhere for an alternative now. Even if they do somehow manage to convince him about a move, they will probably have to fork out a significant fee to sign the Danish star who has a €80 million release clause.
